OFFICE HOURS
Administrative life has become a growing component across all sectors of society including healthcare. Often this work is invisible and represents a kind of ‘death by a thousand cuts,’ persistently taking time away from more tangible and connective human encounters. Office Hours provides a way for administrative work to hold potential for meaning by colliding with the public realm.
Office Hours at Headlands Center for the Arts invited professionals working in the field of healthcare to hold office hours alongside artist Jody Wood. Participants carried out their administrative tasks during this time and agreed to be available for conversations with the public. Visitors were invited to stop by and discuss the role of administrative labor in care work amid increasing pressure toward labor efficiency.
